{"id":12100,"date":"2018-12-17T11:31:59","date_gmt":"2018-12-17T06:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.airwhizz.com\/?p=12100"},"modified":"2018-12-17T11:32:09","modified_gmt":"2018-12-17T06:02:09","slug":"government-paves-way-for-wi-fi-on-flights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.airwhizz.com\/index.php\/2018\/12\/17\/government-paves-way-for-wi-fi-on-flights\/","title":{"rendered":"Government Paves Way For Wi-Fi On Flights!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People will soon be able to make calls and access <g class=\"gr_ gr_8 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"8\" data-gr-id=\"8\">internet<\/g> through their phones during air travel within Indian territory as the government has notified rules for providing such services.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government has made a set of guidelines under the Indian Flight and Maritime Connectivity Rules (IFMC), 2018, which says that Indian and foreign airlines operating in the country can provide in-flight voice and data services in partnership with a valid Indian telecom <g class=\"gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace\" id=\"5\" data-gr-id=\"5\">licence<\/g> holder.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The services will be activated once the aircraft attains a minimum height of 3,000 <g class=\"gr_ gr_4 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace\" id=\"4\" data-gr-id=\"4\">metres<\/g> in Indian airspace to avoid interference with terrestrial mobile networks, the rules state.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The IFMC <g class=\"gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace\" id=\"5\" data-gr-id=\"5\">licences<\/g> will be granted against an annual fee of Re 1 for a period of 10 years and the permit holder will have to pay licence fees and usage charges based on revenue earned from providing services.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, airlines and service providers will decide how much they want to charge the customer. It is also up to them whether they want to offer both internet and calling services or limit themselves to Wi-Fi services only.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most airlines globally offer only Wi-Fi on board as allowing mobile calls could be too much of a nuisance for fellow travellers.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This development helps India, one of the fastest growing aviation markets and the second largest smartphone market, join a long list of countries like the US, UK, Canada <g class=\"gr_ gr_7 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"7\" data-gr-id=\"7\">and<\/g> China that have been offering the services for a couple of years now.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People will soon be able to make calls and access internet through their phones during air travel within Indian territory as the government has notified rules for providing such services.
